No Oscar?

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 12 April 2014 03:59 (A review of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb)

If I told you a epic war movie could be just an hour and a half long, would you believe me? This is when Stanley Kubrick comes into play and creates a black and white suspense story of Russia and the USA at war.

This movie is defiantly one of the best of its time. Every actor in this movie is at the top of their game. Especially Peter Sellers who played 3 different characters and still didnt win an Oscar, no that is not a typo, its true. I thought the suspense was great it kept me on the edge of my seat. The comedy was there and it was great to ease some of that tension between the Russians and the USA.

A couple things that bugged me was the movie starts right away there is no back story, its just boom movie GO! I was a little surprised at that, I thought it would be a little longer. There was one scene that felt particularly long and drawn out. Also I wish there was more Dr. Strangelove!

All in all the movie was fun, it kept me on the edge of my seat, had some drawn out parts, but defiantly a work of art from Kubrick.

Just Have Fun!

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 11 January 2014 04:02 (A review of American Hustle)

Okay theres always people who complain about movies, but serioulsy this was a fun movie! I think people are missing the point that its a con movie, and they have to actually pay attention, because if you miss a part you are going to miss an important plot point. I had fun with this movie, I laughed I was into it, dont know why people were into it. Yes I do have complaints too, but Ill get to that.

Every performance in this movie was fantastic! Amy Adams, well thats all you need to know! Christian Bale, once again all you need to know! Bradley Cooper was really good in this movie, he brought it all and brought it hard! Jennifer Lawrence was annoying but she played it well, and her performance was good. Jeremy Renner had a good performance too.

The complaints I have is that, it felt like there was two endings. It felt like it was ending then all of a sudden, something else happens then another ending. I also felt like it could have gotten going a little sooner.

But it was memorable and I had fun. There was a STORY, you just gotta pay attention. Go have fun when you walk into it because that is what American Hustle is a fun movie

Awaken Smaug

Posted : 10 years, 2 months ago on 5 January 2014 05:22 (A review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug)

So we got the 2nd installment of the prequel Lord of the Ring series, The Hobbit, entitled the Desolation of Smaug. Desolation of Smaug, had literally non stop action, from beginning to end. There was a small part where there was little or no action, but it was defiantly a good break from what was saw in the beginning. I can not count how many memorable scenes there are in this movie and there are plenty. The acting was superb once again, except I could have used a little bit more of Evangeline Livy and Orlando Bloom, I am not huge fans of them, but they killed it in this movie. I must say Desolation of Smaug is one of the best movies in the Hobbit/Lord of The Ring series, and if you cant wait for the next movie, there's only 12 months.

Oh and that dragon is amazing!

Half and Half

Posted : 11 years, 10 months ago on 24 May 2012 02:52 (A review of The Vow)

The Vow seemed like a love story that had everything going for it. A tragedy, a "hot" dude, and a pretty girl. The movie starts out great, it's fun, it's loving, and it just seemed like my girlfriend and I were into it. There were laughs, and some great spots of romance. But after a while it lost touch, and it just wasn't doing it for me. The story fell apart, the delivery wasn't there it seemed like it just fell apart, and was just a blah average boring movie. Channing Tatum had some improvements in the movie, but still had some really bad moments. The supporters were good as well. The movie started off well, but fell apart just as well as it started

Drive review

Posted : 12 years, 1 month ago on 21 February 2012 05:26 (A review of Drive)

"How 'bout this. You shut your mouth. Or I'll kick your teeth down your throat and I'll shut it for you" With many mixed reviews of this movie, I was very intrigued. The movie starts off pretty much silent, but a silence that added suspense. Most of the movie is like this, lots of pauses and silence. Which many people hated, and which I loved, and thought it made the movie that much more intense. Like in No Country for Old Men when there is a lot of a quiet moments. The movie's style put you into the 80s with it's writing and music. The style made the movie much more brighter and defiantly brought it to life. The plot wasn't complicated but simple, but what made the movie so awesome was that the style and delivery made it very hard not to turn away. The acting was great, especially by Ryan Gosling, any girls who think they're seeing another pretty face Ryan, think again, even though he plays that good too. He is a violent driver, who will rip the face off anyone. This is easily his best performance. Surprised there isn't Oscar. The supporters all had times to shine, and they shined. Don't let the bad reviews make you from not watching this, because it's awesome. I was shaking most of the time, that was due to the non stop suspense. The 3rd best movie of the year!

Great new band

Posted : 12 years, 2 months ago on 20 January 2012 12:31 (A review of Young The Giant)

Knowing only 2 songs by Young The Giant, I was a little skeptical coming in since a lot of indie albums usually have the single which is the strongest part of the album. This does that but every song on this album is very strong and memorable. Most of us have heard the song Cough Syrup before, it's a pretty well known song, easily the strongest on the album, but every song has strength. The guitar tone in the album is really good. I love the high notes it plays, and for some reason just love how the tone sounds kind of new age but also a little set back to the 90s. The bass player and drummer are the strength of the band, I think at least. The song "Your Side" is a very bass and drum driven song, not to mention a very good song also. I will say it right now, this band will be big, they are really good and have some talent. A great band and the album does not let down.

Mastodon still hunting

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 30 December 2011 07:50 (A review of The Hunter)

Mastodon is here again with another killer album "The Hunter." Mastodon doesn't let go as the first 3 tracks just rip up your stereo with surging guitars, and fast paced drums. Every track on this album has the making of your typical Mastodon album with a few differences. They still can write the slow songs, and still have you singing along instead of skipping to the next fast paced track. Another Mastodon album in the books that doesn't let up at all, and pulls you further and further into their trap of awesome progressive metal.

Snooze Fest

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 30 December 2011 05:26 (A review of Dare)

A typical high school coming of age film with a little confusion. We meet 3 high school kids, and a small supporting friend played by the one (Rooney Mara) who seems to show up at weird times. The three friends fight, become gay, then straight and don't quite know who they are or how to act in a movie. The acting in this movie was absolute bad. Except for some of Zach Gilford, everything else just felt forced. Rooney Mara who always seems to be intense, was at points, but added some comedic relief, which was needed in this snooze fest. It felt like there was nothing between the characters at all. No one really developed, except for Gilford's who I actual felt for. Indeed it's not a reccomendation, unless you're a high school kid.

Anti Climatic

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 29 December 2011 05:06 (A review of Apollo 18)

Nothing much to say here, but that it was very anti climatic. There were some good scares here and there but nothing really made you jump. It was defiantly shocking up until the end, when I was left feeling nothing. The acting wasn't strong at all. Just not a reccomendation at all.

Believe the hype, dont skip this one

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 27 December 2011 03:30 (A review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)

"I want you to help me catch a killer of women" Based on the best selling book "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" never lets you breathe. The movie takes you from beginning to end without letting you get comfortable. It engages you in every scene, and makes you guess. An edge of your seat thriller that doesn't let up.

David Fincher creates once again a dark scene. Like Se7en and Fight Club, David Fincher directs a gem in this one. Fincher is one of those directors who creates such great shots in every scene. He once again does not dissapoints

Rooney Mara, Rooney Mara is the only name you need to know at the end of this movie. She was dark, a smart ass, and twisted. Rooney stole the show with every scene she was in. Rooney is unrecognizable in her role as Lisbeth Salander. A nomination for an Oscar is in her sights and better be. Daniel Craig was great, and not laughable as most critics said. Plus Stellan Skarsgard was probably the best supporter of the movie.

Don't skip this, this is high in my recommendations. It's not for teens though, there is a lot of talking, which drives the movie, which has a very strong screenplay. Maybe Trent Reznor's score will keep them interested. Rooney Mara is a gem and the story develops brilliantly. See it now!
